How to choose a ski helmet

1. Measure yourself

If you shop online, first measure your head circumference in cm. For correct size selection, measure the perimeter of the head by the width of one finger (1 cm) above the eyebrow. The size range in cm is given in the product detail in the size field in parentheses.

2. When selecting and testing the helmet, pay attention to:

1. Additional helmet adjustment.

The uvex IAS 3D system allows the helmet size to be adjusted not only around the perimeter of the head, but also in ↑ height.

2. Ease of fastening.

The monomatic system is adjusted and switched on with one knob and can be switched on with one hand.

3. Adjustment of fastening under the chin.

The straps must be adjustable and adjust to the shape of the chin (FAS system).

4. Goggles holder.

Thanks to the holder, the rubber strap always stays in the same place.

5. Fine-tuning size of helmet.

The Boa® system allows you to fine-tune the helmet size to the head circumference for a comfortable fit. The system is operated by simply turning the wheel (rotates by 1 mm) on the back of the helmet.

6. Inner technology that adjusts to the shape of the head.

Flexible slats octo+ surround the head from all sides. They adapt to the individual needs of everyone.

7. Ventilation system.

Maintains a comfortable temperature inside the helmet, protecting it from overheating. It draws in cold air from the front through the openings on the back. It does not stay inside the helmet.

8. Natural Sound system and Audio system.

The earpieces ensure the natural sound reception from the surrounding environment. They don't dampen the sound and protect the ears.
Selected helmet models have audio system - allowing you to place special headphones in your earpieces.

9. Visor.

Helmet with visor protects the eyes from snow, wind, rain, UV radiation and allows you to wear prescriptions glasses under it.

10. Removable padding.

The padding can be easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Use a mild soap solution or a strongly diluted laundry detergent as a cleaning agent. The paddings and straps are dried at room temperature.

3. Correct helmet fixation:

After all straps and mechanisms have been adjusted, the helmet should fit perfectly. The helmet must not be too low, it would interfere with the field of vision and would not protect well the back of the head. If it exposes a large part of the forehead, the head protection from the front is reduced. The ideal face helmet ends approximately in the middle of the forehead (or 2 cm above the eyebrow). The chin strap holds the helmet so that it does not fall, slip (2 fingers should fit into the fastened chin strap) and the mechanisms hold the helmet on the head so that it would not be loose when moving the head. It should hold tight but not push. It is best if the helmet fits well without additional adjustments.

4. Try the helmet with goggles as well.

Do not underestimate testing helmet with goggles and vice versa. Not even buying goggles and helmet from one brand guarantees that they will fit on your head well together. If you have one piece of equipment older and buying a new one, there may be no match even in case of the same manufacturer. They often come with a new design and shape.

5. Care and cleaning:

  • clean the helmet shell with lukewarm water or a mild soap solution. Do not use any solvents, diluents, etc.
  • check the helmet at regular intervals for visible damage. A damaged helmet does not satisfy its 100% protective function.
  • only original spare parts may be used for repair.
